Beijing has started preparatory work for 2022 Games

It has been more than three months since Beijing won the right to host the 2022 Winter Olympics. Although the Games are still seven years away, the International Olympic Committee sent a delegation to Beijing Tuesday to conduct a two- day orientation seminar to help the organizers of the multi-sports spectacle get more familiar with the task at hand.

The president of the Chinese Olympic Committee, Liu Peng, and the mayor of Beijing, Wang Anshun, both participated in the seminar. The 12-member delegation, led by IOC Executive Director Christophe Dubi reviewed the preparatory work for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics and the 2012 London Summer Games during the meeting. They also introduced the work that Beijing 2022 will carry out over the next seven years and some important areas of Games management.
The Beijing Winter Olympics committee will now begin preparatory steps for the Games. "We have made some plans for developing winter sports in the country. We will soon establish bobsleigh and luge teams. Although we are short on equipment, stadiums and coaches for winter events, we are making steps in that direction and a good start will help winter sports improve a lot in China," said Zhao Yinggang, deputy secretary- general of the 2022 Games Bid Committee.
